This project began as a series of digitally altered photographs reproduced on canvas of locations in Scotland important to my family, but my focus quickly turned to the many castles dotted around the Scottish landscape and my preferred medium of acrylic paint on canvas. The castles here represent only a drop in the ocean of over 1000 castles across Scotland. Some are still occupied, others only a handful of stones suggesting their former footprint, and everything in between. It will be the work of a lifetime to attempt to paint them all and, while I may never get there, I will enjoy the attempt!
